Volunteer Work Day

October 13, 2021
9:00 am
- 12:00 pm

Join us on Lookout Mountain for some fun with friends! Sure, we might throw a little work in there too.

It's officially autumn! Ahh...breathe it in! We love summer but by the time September roles around we are glad to see an end to those hot and humid work days. At LMC, autumn doesn't just mean sweater weather and falling leaves though. It also marks the beginning of climbing season. So what does that mean? Well, we tend to have more visitors in our park during this time because the cooler temperatures make for perfect climbing conditions.

During the school year, our interns are busy fulfilling their most important role, being students. That being said, we have a lot of catching up to do!

What to Bring: A water bottle, work gloves (if you have any), and a sack lunch. *We are happy to provide a sandwich and some chips!*

What to Wear: Durable clothes, closed-toed shoes, and a mask (when physical distancing is not possible)

What to Expect: We are working to the get the park and trails ready for climbing season. Specific activities will vary depending on what needs to be done but generally, activities will include:

-trail maintenance (weed eating, cutting back overgrowth, and removing fallen branches)

-boulder maintenance (weeding boulder pads, removing overgrowth on boulders)

-teaching garden maintenance (mostly pulling weeds)

-pollinator garden maintenance (pulling weeds, pruning plants)

-physically removing invasive plants (kudzu is always on the to-do list!)

**Covid-19 is an extremely contagious disease. We practice safety standards recommended by the CDC and our local health department to provide the safest possible environment for all interns, staff, and volunteers. Please use caution when working in groups, especially when physical distancing of 6+ft is not possible.**
