Martin Luther King Day of Service 2020

Martin Luther King Day of Service 2020

  • January 20, 2020
    9:00 am - 12:30 pm

This is the 7th year that the city of Chattanooga has hosted "A day on, not a day off" of volunteer service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  There will be projects submitted from all over the city for volunteers to participate in, covering every different aspect of ways that people can serve their community.

LMC will again host a project site as we continue to build out the bouldering park and pollinator garden for the community around us.  There will be businesses and schools from the area who are planning to bring groups out to the Mountain, individuals from the community are welcome to sign up too.

To sign up for the "official" city-wide service day sign up here.  The kick off for the official MLK DOS starts at UTC's Maclellan Gym at 8am, followed by splitting off to work sites.

For those who want to skip the official start and show up at our property, please sign up here and meet at: 1835 Old Wauhatchie Pike, Chattanooga TN 37409 at 9am

What will we be working on?

The Bouldering Park has come a long way, there are still more landing zones and stairways to be finished to maximize the safety of climbers and environmental sustainability of the area.

The future Pollinator Garden area is ripe for the clearing.  While we try to keep it at bay, the kudzu continues to grow.  The Pollinator Garden will eventually be over an acre of native grasses, trees, shrubs, and flowers, with walking paths and benches.  These native plants will replace the invasive plants that have been able to over take the area for decades.  The area must be cleared and prepped for some more of the native species to be planted in the spring.

What to bring?

Waterbottle, we will have some work gloves bring some work gloves of your own if you prefer, wear layers appropriate for the weather, and clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. If under 18, an waiver must be signed by the minor's guardian and brought with.

Come out and join us, and other's in your community, for a day up on the Mountain, honoring Dr. King's legacy.
