TAG / Durham Rails

This focus area is solely focused on the recreation aspect of the mission statement, but covers a narrow corridor that runs most of the eastern length of the mountain. The Tennessee-Alabama-Georgia Railroad is now an abandoned rail line that in Lookout Mountain Conservancy’s project area runs from near Flintstone, Georgia to Gadsden, Alabama. The Durham Railroad is a rail line that runs from near Flintstone, Georgia up Lookout Mountain through Lula Lake Land Trust, to Durham, Georgia. This rail line is abandoned as well. LMC anticipates working with partners on both of these rail lines to possibly develop them as recreation trails under the Rails to Trails program.
